One-third of U.S. broadband households find smart home energy management features very appealing

Stuart Sikes, President of Parks Associates, discusses the impact of the Internet of Things on energy markets at PLMA Fall Conference

Parks Associates research reports 30% of U.S. broadband households find most energy management use cases very appealing. Stuart Sikes, President, Parks Associates, will present the firm’s smart home and Internet of Things research and discuss its implications for revenues and partnerships at the upcoming PLMA (Peak Load Management Alliance) Fall Conference at the Hilton Charlotte City Center this week.

His presentation "Impact of Smart Home and IoT on Consumer Energy Markets" on Tuesday, November 3, 10:45-11:15 A.M., will provide an overview of today's energy consumer and the impact of new technologies, mainstream sales channels, and partnership opportunities.

“Nearly all U.S. households have taken some energy-saving steps in the past 12 months. Many households have adjusted their thermostats, switched to CFL and LED bulbs, and bought new energy-efficient appliances to save money and energy,” Sikes said. “The energy management features available today complement these consumer activities and can therefore broaden the appeal of smart home offerings.”

New research from Parks Associates’ Energy Management Bundles includes:

  • 51% of U.S. broadband households would like to receive alerts if a fire or smoke is detected in their home;
  • 45% of U.S. broadband households would like to receive an alert if there is a carbon monoxide or gas leak; and,
  • 36% of U.S. broadband households would like the ability to remotely turn off the lights inside or outside of their home.

A leader in energy and smart home industry research, Parks Associates hosts the Smart Energy Summit: Engaging the Consumer each year in Austin, Texas. The 2016 event will be held February 22-24 at the Omni Hotel. For more information, visit
