How Do You Measure the Pulse
of the Broadband Consumer Market?
The Internet revolution is
proceeding faster than most market watchers expected. Parks Associates consumer
research indicates that the penetration rate for residential Internet access will reach
39% by the end of 1999. Broadband Internet service, while having an installed base of
about 3% of the online households in the United States, is building powerful momentum to
move toward a mass market.
"Now is the time to take a close look at those who have adopted high-speed
Internet services and those who have not," says Hongjun Li, director of research at
Parks Associates. " Parks Associates newly introduced
Broadband Access @
Home study will help clients gauge the pulse of the current marketplace
and project future market development."
Parks Associates conducted its first consumer broadband study in 1998. That study,
called Surfing a New Wave: Consumers and Emerging Internet Access Platforms, was
sponsored by most of the founding members of UAWG (Universal ADSL Working Group). The
newly introduced BA@H has three components:
-
a follow-up survey to Parks Associates 1998 Surfing a New Wave study in
order to provide trending data;
-
a survey of 400 DSL/cable modem users in four MSAs (New York, Atlanta, Phoenix, and San
Jose) where both services are available; and
-
an industry analysis report on high-speed Internet services and quarterly updates on
service deployment.

A Survey of 400 Users of High-speed Internet
Services

Parks Associates will survey a total of 400
users of cable modem service and DSL. These users will be pulled from four MSAs where both
cable modem service and DSL are available.

An industry report on high-speed Internet
services and quarterly updates on service deployment
|
The industry report, entitled Computing,
Internet Service, and Broadband Access @ Home, will provide a strategic overview of
the Internet service industry, an analysis of all major platforms for high-speed Internet
services, a detailed description and assessment of the marketing strategies employed by
the key players of high-speed Internet services, and a market forecast through 2004. The
quarterly updates will provide timely and concise information on the deployment of
high-speed Internet services (cable modem service, DSL, DirecPC, and MMDS/LMDS-based
Internet services).
