Broadband: coming to a powerline near you?

Most of the BPL [broadband over power line] experimentation has been taking place in Europe and China. In fact, the recent commercial launch of a new broadband service based on powerline communications technologies may further expedite the development of China's broadband services market. According to Yuanzhe (Michael) Cai, an analyst for market research firm Parks Associates in Dallas, FibrLINK Networks Co., a broadband services provider controlled by China's State Power Telecommunications Center, has just wrapped powerline communications field tests in two Beijing residential buildings, resulting in the commercial launch of those services earlier this month.
