Quarter of US broadband households own streaming media device

The connected home is increasingly becoming smarter and a hub for wireless video according to research from Parks Associates.

RokuSeagateIn its report, Parks found that ownership and usage of connected devices is growing among US broadband households, with 26% owning a streaming media device, 34% owning a smart TV and 16% possessing a smart home device. The data also showed that just over half (55%) of broadband households subscribe to a subscription over-the-top (OTT) video service, up from 44% in 2013, and that more than three-quarters of streaming media player owners have an OTT subscription.

Moreover, the research calculated that 37% of such households intend to buy one or more smart devices in 2015 and that the average household spends over $6 per month on subscription video services such as Hulu, Amazon and Netflix.
