Smart Home

37% of U.S. broadband households plan to buy a smart home device in 2015

This week, Parks Associates revealed new smart home research during the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Published in a new whitepaper, "The Connected Consumer: Top Trends in IoT," the research reveals market predictions and early data for a number of verticals within the digital living space. Most notably, the firm forecasts that personalization, created through data analytics, unique interfaces, and targeted product features, will be the key factor in creating product and service differentiation in 2015.

Commenting on the data, Parks Associates President Stuart Sikes said, “Most companies are only scratching the surface when it comes to personalization and effective utilization of big data. Data analytics and constant connectivity give companies the tools they need to provide an enhanced user experience, which will be the key differentiator in 2015. Companies that fail to leverage this powerful tool will continue to struggle.”

Some of the research revealed in this new whitepaper includes:

  • Average APRUs for pay-TV customers in U.S. broadband households
  • The number of Ultra HD televisions that will be sold globally through 2018
  • The total product and service revenues for the digital health market in 2019
  • The number of connected device owners who express concern over data privacy and security
  • The top two most appealing home energy management features among U.S. broadband consumers

The smart home and IoT were two hot topics at this year's CES, where a brand new exhibit space was opened for vendors to showcase their related services and products. Parks Associates' annual CONNECTIONS Summit also covered the IoT in depth, with speakers from WeatherBug Home, Ericsson, AT&T, EVRYTHNG, and Qualcomm, among others.
