Cameras, whether doorbell or freestanding, are one of the fastest areas of innovation in home security. Companies are improving pixel quality, night vision, thermal vision, camera view, camera durability, battery life, and A.I. detecting capabilities. They are also adding new features to deter intruders or porch pirates. As this occurs, consumer demand increases.
Parks Associate’s research finds cameras and video doorbells are the top two devices’ consumers add to their home security systems.
Manufacturers are implementing advanced features as standard to keep pace with a very competitive market. For example, the new Arlo Go 2 has several more features (such as 1080p, Wi-Fi support, longer battery life, GPS, a spotlight, and real-time 2-way communication capabilities), than the previous generation Arlo Go, and has starting retail price that is $150 cheaper.
These improvements in features accompanying price reductions demonstrate that the demand for more camera innovation from consumers is pushing all players in the market to adopt these features quickly and provide them as standard in their products.
These advancements in features align with what security system shoppers are looking for when they consider their purchase. Recent research from Parks Associates survey work of 10,000 internet households shows among security system owners, a great deal of interest exists around cloud storage for video, advanced video analytics, and video verification regardless of how the system is installed.
