Aetna, Geisinger, Sharecare, and UnitedHealthcare to keynote Parks Associates’ fourth-annual Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers

Executive conference will be held August 29-31 at the Omni Hotel San Diego

Parks Associates today announced the keynote lineup for the fourth-annual Connected Health Summit: Engaging Consumers, August 29-31 at the Omni Hotel in San Diego, California. Executives from Aetna Digital, Geisinger Health System, Sharecare Inc., and UnitedHealthcare will examine new digital health technologies as part of the Internet of Things (IoT) phenomenon and the transformational impact of these connected solutions on the U.S. healthcare system.

“The U.S. healthcare industry is currently at a crossroads,” said Jennifer Kent, Director, Research Quality & Product Development, Parks Associates. “Many policy and funding decisions are in flux, but the consumerization trends will continue. Connected health solutions can facilitate key use cases favorable to consumers, including remote health monitoring, aging in place, and independent living. The keynotes at Connected Health Summit have all dealt with market uncertainty while developing innovative healthcare solutions or services, and their strategic insights are invaluable for success going forward.”

“Care used to be tied to the visit because that is where the resources were,” said Chanin Wendling, AVP, Informatics, Geisinger Health System. “With connected health, we can connect the patient and clinical teams at any point, transforming the execution of care to a very active process that can more easily tailor to the patient’s lifestyle and enable the patient and his/her family to be active members of the care team.”

“We cannot do an effective job of getting individuals to engage in their health unless we understand the obstacles they face in addressing their issues,” said Dale Rayman, SVP, Actuarial Consulting & Business Development, Sharecare. “Then we have to employ the best, evidence-based solutions to help them address both the obstacles and issues. Finally, you need to ask yourself whether it’s appealing enough that members would be lining up to do it? Don’t forget that we’re competing with Facebook and HGTV for their time.”

More than 300 executives will attend Connected Health Summit at the Omni Hotel in San Diego, including device makers and distributors, healthcare providers, insurance and health institutions, software and app developers, telecom and broadband service providers, technology enablers, brands and merchants, and mobile infrastructure providers. Parks Associates analysts will moderate all sessions and present the firm’s new digital health research. The keynote schedule is as follows:

Wednesday, August 30

  • 9:45 a.m. - Chanin Wendling, AVP, Informatics, Geisinger Health System, will present the opening keynote “Geisinger’s March Toward Consumerism.” She will discuss Geisinger’s approach to embracing consumerism as a strategic priority, how it is disrupting some traditional provider practices, and how it is enabled by connected health.
  • 4:00 p.m. - Dale Rayman, SVP, Actuarial Consulting & Business Development, Sharecare, will present the keynote “Disruption On-Demand: Humanizing the Healthcare Paradigm.” He will discuss how other industries outside of healthcare are answering the call of the always-connected consumer and explore how the U.S. can redefine the healthcare paradigm to empower consumers to truly take control of their health and well-being.

Thursday, August 31

  •  9:45 a.m. - Saquib Rahim, MD, MBA, Chief Medical Officer, Aetna Digital, will present the morning keynote “Digital Health: It Begins with Engagement.” Rahim will explore digital health trends and analyze opportunities to solve the consumer engagement problem.
  • 11:45 a.m. - John W. Cosgriff, Chief Strategy Officer, UnitedHealthcare, will present the final keynote “Delivering Care at Scale.” He will share how UnitedHealthcare’s unique model is helping to achieve the triple aim around better care, better cost, and better experience.
