Hispasat becomes 1st operator to provide Ka band to Latin America

Hispasat announced entry into service of the first satellite offering telecommunications services to Latin America over Ka band this week following the launch of its satellite Amazonas 3. In addition to broadband internet without any geographical limitations, the satellite also offers TV platform diffusion and deployments of fixed and mobile corporate networks. The $350 million satellite has 52 simultaneous transponders, 33 in Ku band and 19 in C band, as well as 9 spot beams in Ka band, all very impressive!

And it is in fact the entire satellite community throughout Latin America who are celebrating this new development as, in Hispasat’s own words, the satellite not only contributes to ‘universalising’ internet access throughout the region but also reduces the digital divide throughout the region.

If you are interested in the development of satellites in Latin America then you should attend VSAT Latin America 2013, taking place from 2 -3 July 2013 featuring 20+ senior level speakers from across the enture ecosystem. For more information visit http://www.latinamerica.vsatevent.com
