8% of U.S. broadband households plan to purchase a plug-in electric vehicle in next 12 months

Parks Associates today announced new smart energy research showing 8% of U.S. broadband households plan to purchase a plug-in electric vehicle in the next 12 months, up from 5% at the end of 2015. 360 View: Energy Management, Smart Home, and Utility Programs notes purchase intention for plug-in electric vehicles was only 3% at the end of 2014 and has steadily climbed each of the last two years.

“As electric cars become more prevalent, and as more of these devices plug in to the grid to charge, they will alter the energy consumption of a household,” said Stuart Sikes, President, Parks Associates. “Utilities are taking important steps to understand and prepare for this new demand. The electric car could also be the basis for new partnerships among the smart home and energy sectors, as households will need management and monitoring solutions to understand and control these changes in their energy consumption.”

Purchase Intention for Electric Vehicle
