CEO of international research firm chairs pay-TV session with Cox, Liberty Global, ADB, and Verimatrix
Parks Associates announced today CEO Tricia Parks will chair the session "Technology that will Shape the Pay TV Connected Home" on Thursday, June 12, at the Connected TV World Summit. The session, with speakers from Cox, Liberty Global, ADB, and Verimatrix, examines the impact of current and future innovations on pay-TV services and operator strategies.
Parks Associates research shows, despite cord-cutting fears inspired by connected CE and OTT video, pay-TV adoption rates are holding steady. In the U.S., 90% of OTT service subscribers also subscribe to a pay-TV service. Furthermore, pay-TV adoption is higher among connected CE owners than among those without; 97% of U.S. broadband households with three or more connected CE devices have a subscription.
“Roughly one-third of connected CE purchases influence service subscriptions, and most of these prompt upgrades over downgrades," said Tricia Parks, Chairman, Founder, and CEO, Parks Associates. “For example, 8% of recent CE buyers upgraded their pay-TV service because of the purchase. Operators throughout the world are re-thinking their approach to OTT and how best to leverage these new, 'unmanaged' screens coming into the connected home.”
Operators will face increased competition from Netflix as the firm expands across Europe. Parks Associates reports over 50% of U.S. broadband households with a connected CE watch at least one hour of video per week using Netflix.
