11% of U.S. broadband households are familiar with energy management/monitoring products

Recent Parks Associates research shows that today, consumers are less familiar with energy programs, energy monitoring products, and tax incentives for energy-saving programs than they were at the end of 2014. However, ownership of smrt home devices is trending upward, indicating an opportunity for utilities and service providers to educate consumers through the smart home channel.

Additional research shows:

  • 25% of U.S. broadband households consider an energy monitoring service very appealing.
  • Approximately half of smart energy device owners or purchase intenders would permit utility control of their smart appliances in exchange for a product rebate.
  • 14% of U.S. broadband households planned to purchase a smart thermostat by the end of 2015.

Parks Associates' Smart Energy Summit, hosted annually in Austin, will focus on ways to engage consumers in energy programs and the partnership opportunities emerging from the growth in the IoT. This year's event will take place February 22-24, 2016 at the Omni Hotel in downtown Austin.
