Asit Goel, SVP and GM, Secure Monitoring & Control / Internet of Things, NXP Semiconductors, provides insight on several key industry trends for Parks Associates’ 11th-annual CONNECTIONS™ Summit conference, which will be held January 5 at CES 2017 in Las Vegas:
What is the most important next step to engage consumers in smart home solutions, connected entertainment services, and/or value-added services like tech support and connected health?
Make smart home solutions easier to select, install, and manage to drive adoption beyond tech early adopters and in to the mainstream. This will require a focus on seamless end-to-end integrations & partnerships, managed services, improved UI, and better security.
What changes do you expect to take place in the next year in the smart home and connected consumer markets?
Expect increased awareness of the importance of security, driven by media coverage of new hacks (almost certain to happen in the coming year) and potential legislation.
What is the biggest driver for the connected consumer market?
There’s not likely to be any silver bullet driving the smart home market in the next year, but rather the gradual refinement and awareness of value propositions that really matter to ‘normal' consumers (e.g. security, savings, convenience) along with the support, marketing, and service infrastructure to drive mainstream adoption.
What are the biggest technology innovations impacting the connected home market?
Continued improvement and innovation in user interfaces – from voice recognition (which will get even better) to motion, touch, and multi-device input.
Goel will speak on the session “Creating New Value in the Connected Home: Integration, Partnerships, and Privacy” on January 5 at 9:00 a.m. Other speakers on the panel include Nest Labs, Comcast, Audio Analytic, Carrier, and EVRYTHNG.
