Half of smart energy device owners would allow utility control of device for rebates

According to recent Parks Associates energy research, half of U.S. broadband households who own a smart energy device would allow their utility access and control of their device if they received a product rebate in exchange. An additional 46% of smart thermostat owners would allow control of their device in order to receive a $50 rebate or discount. Nearly 30% of U.S. broadband households value control over cost savings.

From this research, Parks Associates created four distinct consumer segments based on each group's preferences for their smart home products. Four key segments emerged:
