Gary Davis, Chief Consumer Security Evangelist at Intel Security, answers several important industry questions prior to the 2016 CONNECTIONS Summit, taking place at the 2016 CES conference January 6-7:
What is the most important next step to engage consumers in smart home solutions, connected entertainment services, and/or value-added services like tech support and connected health?
Have them do their homework when making purchasing decisions for devices that connect. Look at a company’s track record for delivering solutions that take consumer privacy and security seriously. Also check the news feeds to understand what trends may be impacting those devices.
What is the biggest challenge your company faces in 2016?
Educating and informing consumers around the world about how to make smart buying decisions when it comes to connected devices and how to use those devices as securely as possible.
What is the biggest driver for the connected consumer market?
Currently it is time-to-market and convenience. Because of these two drivers, companies are foregoing the implementation of effective security controls and capabilities which is opening up the potential for a Pandora’s box of vulnerable devices.
What are the most important initiatives your company is taking in 2016?
Delivering innovations that enable connected devices in the home to be used in such a way that our customer’s privacy and data are protected to their fullest potential while enabling the maximum utility of those devices.
Describe your vision for the smart home and entertainment markets in 2020.
Everything is securely connected. From the moment you walk into your home smart actions start to take place, from adjusting the lighting to playing your favorite song list. Just by being present your home knows who you are and what environment you prefer.
Gary Davis will be speaking on the panel "Personalization and Big Data: Securing Consumer Privacy" on January 6 at 3:45pm, alongside speakers from Cisco, Facebook, NXP Semiconductor, Verimatrix, and Zubie. Register to attend today!
