Schneider Electric: Security Concerns Remains Barrier for Consumer Adoption of Energy Products

Yann Kulp, Vice President SmartSpace at Schneider Electric North America, provides insight on several industry questions before joining attendees, sponsors, and other speakers at the 2016 Smart Energy Summit in Austin:

What do you think is the most challenging issue for your company as it relates to the residential energy management market?

Keeping up with new IoT entrants & ensuring wide connectivity is tough. The proliferation of technologies, protocols & start-ups is huge !

What are the major challenges that your business must address in 2016? In 2020?

Understanding where the IoT market is going & customer needs. It's an incredibly dynamic space & staying ahead is a constant focus for our teams.

Also we work hard to develop engaging value propositions for consumers.

What are the major barriers impacting consumer adoption of energy related products and services?

As a consumer, there is no clear ROI to offset the technology costs. So - beyond the cool factor - why would I invest ?

Cyber security concerns are also big.

What are the biggest opportunities for the smart home industry to work with the electricity industry?

I think it's the 'Nano-grid' on the home or small building. In other words automation of controllable loads, EV, storage, PV, dynamic pricing....

This will be a massive opportunity for the market.

What impact with smart products and smart home services have on consumer adoption of energy solutions?

Huge: technology & cost are no longer the roadblock. It's now about value props & a great story

Yann Kulp will speak on the panel session "Direct Participation of Energy Platform Providers in Energy Markets" on Wednesday, February 24 at 4:00pm. Other speakers confirmed to speak during this session include Converge, Itron, and WeatherBug Home.
